PARIS: Lille’s bid to win Ligue 1 will continue until the final week of the season after a goalless draw with Saint-Etienne allowed Paris Saint-Germain to close the gap to one point.
Defending champions PSG won easily 4-0 over Reims to increase the pressure on Lille, who could win the French title for the first time since 2011 if they win against Angers on Sunday.
“Our start was very loose. It was better after that, but we didn’t expect any more success tonight because we played just normal,” said Lille’s Christophe Galtier.
“We are still ahead. We will go through the last game against Angers which we need to win if we want to be champions.”
Meanwhile, PSG excelled at the Parc des Princes when Yunis Abdelhamid gave Kylian Mbappe a chance to explode in front of an empty goal, awarded a penalty and was sent off in the match.
Neymar scored from the penalty spot in the 13th minute and 11 minutes later Mbappe found the back of the net after a strange Thomas Foket pass.
Marquinhos made it 3-0 in the 68th minute with a header after receiving a corner from Neymar.
Moise Kean completed PSG’s victory a minute before the end.
