LONDON: Pep Guardiola insists he has no regrets with Jadon Sancho’s decision to move from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho who was born out of the City academy system is now one of the most shining young stars in Europe.
However, he decided to leave the Premier League club for Dortmund in 2017 because he feared that City’s group of world -class players would deny him the opportunity to play.
The 20 -year -old is now one of Dortmund’s main pillars and also represents the England squad.
Now Sancho will return to meet Guardiola after the Premier League leaders were drawn to face the Bundesliga club in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Asked if he was disappointed Sancho turned down a contract offered when he was 17, City boss Guardiola made it clear he was happy the youngster had succeeded after leaving the Etihad Stadium.
“I’ve said it many times, it’s not a regret. He’s already made a decision. He’s played very well. Congratulations, he’s an amazing player,” Guardiola said.
“He’s a national squad player who has great quality, played well with Dortmund. We wanted him to stay but he decided to move, and when people have already decided, all we can do is let him move.
“I wish him the best, except when playing against us. Never regret it. If he’s happy, I’m happy.”
