Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina scored in extra time as Italy beat Austria 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
The win set a new record after extending the win to 31 matches, surpassing the 30 -match streak when Italy were under Vittorio Pozzo between 1935 and 1939.
Marko Arnautovic saw VAR’s undeniable effort in the second half after Austria threatened to make a surprise move.
The inclusion of substitutes Chiesa and Pessina helped Italy book a quarter-final slot after their clinical touch in the first half of extra time managed to find the net, although Sasa Kalajdzic struggled to reduce the goal deficit in the 114th minute.
Roberto Mancini’s squad will meet between Portugal and Belgium in Munich next Friday.
